HVAC Ductboard Ductwork

Some residential HVAC systems have ductwork that is constructed from rigid fiberglass boards bonded with a resin. The product is less expensive than traditional steel ductwork and is easier to assemble.

Over a period, the fiberglass particulates break down from air abrasion as well as from loosely improper air duct cleanings. Fiberglass lined ductwork is intended to reduce noise and prevent air from escaping.

At A Plus Enviro-Services we know that eventually this sealant can begin to erode and during any air duct cleaning we do, we will suggest having the ductwork encapsulated to prevent the duct board to from polluting your indoor air quality. Not all homes have this set-up, but for those that do have it should highly consider getting their ducts encapsulated.

Numerous IAQ case studies have shown that fiberglass duct, combined with dust, dirt and moisture, is a very good medium for microbial growth (examples: mold, fungus, Legionella bacteria). We encapsulate the ductwork by applying a  low odor, quick setting water-based surfacing material that is designed for fiberglass duct board insulation. This is used to form an effective air erosion preventive surfacing material, sealing, and reinforcing the surface of new or aged duct liner insulation. Encapsulating your ducts instead of replacing the ducts themselves will save you both time and money while maintaining an efficient level of ductwork. Unfortunately ductboard can't be cleaned without coating

Cleaning ductboard cannot be done without applying a coating. The air duct cleaning process requires agitation using high-pressure air tools and friction from contact vacuum cleaners. Ductboard is made of fiberglass plates bonded with a layer of glue, which can be easily damaged by any type of contact or cleaning.
